10: Turning Leads into Gold with the Alchemist Entrepreneur Dov Gordon

My Guest: Dov Gordon

Dov Gordon helps consultants, coaches and entrepreneurs develop a consistent flow of their ideal clients. The self titled “Alchemist Entrepreneur” helps turn leads into gold, much like the mythical alchemist turned lead into gold. By working on the underlying structure of the metal in order to turn something common into something priceless, Dov eschews flashy tricks and tactics and instead works on the core concepts of your marketing message and systematic implementation.

In this episode, Dov gives us some great tips, tools and frameworks for marketing as well as talks about how he built a business never having even held a job, and voices the common struggles of so many in lead generation, and targeting clients at different spending levels.

Pivotal Moments:

Learning from the library
Realizing that books will only take you so far and hiring one-on-one assistance from experts to take the next step
Taking a coaching course, but not for the title, only for the tools
Lots and lots and lots of hard work

I neither want nor need to be a millionaire, and that frees me up to service fewer clients more diligently and do better work for them

The Advice:

All successful marketing funnels exist to answer the #1 questions in our prospects mind:
1- Should I pay attention to this?
2- Can I trust you?

3- Is this right for me?

3 steps to mastery (in any subject):

1- Getting the basic information, where 10% will give you 90% of what you need to know
2- Implement it!!! (Too many people stop at #1 and never move forward)

3- Iterate and refine.

To conquer doubt when you hit a wall, we ask ourselves 3 questions (Dov works a lot with Rules of 3):

1- Am I doing it right?
2- Am I even doing the right thing?

3- Will it ever work for me?

Too many people push and plug away at a strategy, slowly making headway, only to give up midway when it doesn’t pan out as they’ve planned, losing all the efforts they put in, when had they pushed a bit more, they would’ve broken through.

The Struggle:

The last year of business could’ve been better in Dov’s opinion, and that’s in part to a number of leads that have come through that don’t have the budget for his standard services. How can Dov genuinely service clients who lack the budget?

The Breakthrough:

Dov will create medium group coaching and guidance for the smaller budget clients so they too can benefit from all the material and insights with a semi-custom application, and pricing it lower since more people will be paying into each group to earn his regular fee.
